most of these artworks were disassembled a few hours later, maybe its human nature to want to take a piece of art or destory it or people thought it breached vandalism guidelines. i like that humans want to add colour to spaces either they love and want to celebrate, or places they hate and what to brighten up. if i was to yarnbomb it would be a mixture of both, id want to celebrate where i live by making it more colourful because everything is green and grey, and it deserves to be rainbow.
i also like the idea that its human nature to decorate the world around us. its like our outside environment is a continuation of our house. im considering whether i should knit for the signs around my street, i love my road SO MUCH but it could do with abit more colour, ill take some pictures on a gross rainy day so u can all see how bloody m i s e r a b l e it CAN look. i also think all the people living near me would find it fun i hope it pisses some of them off though that would make me happy. the snake is my favorite, i like that
some guerilla knitting from the bristol art walk in 2011!
i ESPECIALLY like knitted signs. even when they look like the original signs like the first ones, i love how it changes the texture and makes the signs look puffy. my favorite is the flamstead sign, i love how janky it is, ots not necessarily done perfect in terms of the type being lined up but i LOVE it. it looks like a old tea-cosy and i like that the crochet is gappy enough to see the original design through the yarn!
this is what inspired me to look at knitting signs as opposed to yarn bombing the motorway bridge or bus stop like i originally thought i would :)
Thank goodness you're here is a game that I really like, I don't have anything that I play games so i dont play the game myself I'm aware of it and i think its a really fun contept. It's about a fake village called Barnsworth, based on Barnsley in Yorkshire. I like how they add so many jokes and details into all the settings, and I wanted the knitted signs I make to have the same effect.
my inspiration for these signs is wanting to make something that would make Lee Anderson rant on his twitter.
T H R O W B A C K. i LOVED this song when i was in secondary school, the album came out around the summer i finished year 11 and i would listen to it on repeat with AGGRESSION every time it rained. the music video looks just like selston and even now i think it captures the feeling of being proud and mad at where you come from. its like the feeling of slagging of where you live and then if anyone else slagged it off i would 100% defend it. i think everyone does this i wonder why we all do it.
